The Foundation's stated aim for the network is to support applications such as financial transactions, supply chain tracking and digital identity management — an ecosystem of uses built on one shared, transparent base layer rather than separate siloed systems.
A decentralized network like a Layer 1 blockchain is maintained by many independent participants — often called validators or nodes — instead of one central server. Each participant keeps a copy of the ledger and follows the same rules to agree on what's valid, so no single party can unilaterally alter the record or shut the network down.
